Combo-dipped hot
I am a lifelong Northsider with family business on the south side so I have had many beef sandwiches from many places and this was the most OVERRATED place I have ever eaten at. The beef was tough, overly greasy tastless and the "hot" was as mild as it was under dressed. I can name 5 beef stands that are better and that is skipping AL'S
Dipped, hot peppers on the side.
WOW! This is definitely my new favorite. The beef had the perfect texture, nice and thinly sliced, with just the right amount of flavor. The bread held up well to the dip, and the jus was just right too! I'll definitely be back!

Hot, dipped
Heavens, the hot beef is absolutely, hands down the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. You think I'm kidding? Not a chance. The beef was thin and tender, the jus was salty and ever so slightly greasy, the bun was perfectly chewy and wet add the hot giardiniera and this sandwich was more than the sum of it's parts. Go get one right now. And bring me one too.

hot and dipped
I drive a truck through out the chicagoland area,so I've tried and had most of the beef around.I'd have to say this is my favorite beef sandwich anywhere,even though service isn't exactly friendly,reminds me of soup nazi in seinfeld.The giardiniera peppers are the best,I can sit and eat those all by themselfs.

Dipped with hot peppers and a shake.
So I ordered my beef dipped with hot peppers, and what I got was what I would call a dry beef. I am not sure if there is some juice shortage at this place, or if you need to order it soaked or wet. I think a dipped beef should be soaking wet when you get it. This was not. What I was really happy with at Mr. Beef is the hot peppers. These I thought were perfect. They were fresh, crunchy and not too hot. I thought they were just right. The beef on the other hand could have used a bit more gravy. I will totally go here again, and see if they skimp me on the juice. The shake was pretty bad, and I would stay away from that in the future.
I went on the weekend and there were people from all walks of life. I would think the place is a mad house on a weekday during the lunch rush. The dining hall reminded me of a beer tent at Octoberfest.

hot dipped (not misted), with provolone
Chances are if you are on this site, then you know Mr. Beef is one of the most celebrated Beef spots in Chicago. They are lauded by people like Jay Leno and often make a top lists for Beefs and just Chicago food in general. Anyways, I gave this place a try and by no means would I say that it's the best Beef but it's good, not damn good just good. I ordered mine hot dipped and with provolone. I will say the fact that they had provolone and not cheddar is an immediate plus, which seems rudimentary but apparently isn't. The beef was pretty good, well cooked not stringy or gristley, the bread was exactly what it should have been, and the peppers were really nice also. My big issue was the dip or should I say lack thereof. Dipped does not mean a little moist which is what I got, don't skimp when someone says dipped. To sum up, the Beef was satisfactory but the dip was unacceptable, give this place a shot but if you want it dipped tell them to soak it, enough said.
