Jay's Beef Overview

Jay's beef has been serving the greater Chicagoland since 1976. Specializing in Italian Beef, Jay's offers the best sandwiches with quality service and friendly employees, making our guests really feel at home. We offer fast service while making every customer's individual order or preference. Jay's Beef uses a third generation Italian Beef recipe. It was started in 1976 in Harwood Heights by Justin Fortuna as a small "shack" on the corner of Narragansett and Montrose. The second location opened in Schiller Park in 1982, the third in Des Plaines in 1987, and the fourth in Chicago (Wicker Park) in 2007. Still run by the Fortuna family to this day, our wish is to serve the finest in sandwiches to Chicago for many years to come. We want customers to feel very comfortable when they eat at Jay's, and to feel like they are our friends with our personable staff.

BerwynMuscle's Ordered:

Dipped with hot peppers

BerwynMuscle's Review:

I tried this place out a few months back, and was happy with the beef. The inside of the restaurant is a bit kooky. It looks like it used to be a Mediterranean or Indian restaurant, and now they sell beefs and burgers. Anyhow that does not really matter or change the taste of the beef.  I agree with brontoburger, and think the peppers were great here. I never had anything like these before. Very homemade and very fresh.

George may eat here again.

hot dipped, with provolone

brontoburger's Review:

I was really excited to learn that there was a new Beef place close to my house and it was called Jay's Beef, so not too long ago I got to have lunch there, as it was closed when I tried to order there a few Sundays prior. Apparently they have been open since 2007 and I'm assuming it was towards the end of the year. At any rate, I finally got to check this place out and I was pleased. The beef itself was pretty tasty but maybe could have been seasoned a little more, either that or I like more sodium in my meals. The bun was nice a fresh and they dipped it the way a dipped beef should be dipped. However, the real show stopper here was the hot peppers, I'm pretty sure they are made in house because they were unlike any I've ever seen any place else. These peppers had a nice hand cut quality, had significant heat and spice and also had a good crunch, which I thought was kind of unconventional but really worked. I would highly recommend Jay's Beef for anyone that wants a quality Beef from people that know what they're doing, I would also like to add that even if you don't normally order yours hot, give them a try at this spot, the peppers here aren't excessively spicy, really fresh and most importantly, taste great.

Brontoburger may eat here again.
