What a joy to find myself working in Rosemont yesterday - close enough for lunch at Mickey's! It's been 20 years since I first discovered the best beef sandwich in Chicago, and since Chicago has the best Italian Beef in the world...

Last night, my sweetheart and I decided that we wanted to take a culinary roadtrip. We live in Indianapolis and since Chicago is only 3.5 hours away, she suggested that we go to Chinatown for dim sum. As soon as I heard "Chicago", I realized that she had never tasted a real Chicago Italian beef sandwich. So...Mickey's it was. We grumbled out of bed at about 9:00 and headed to Chicago. We were both a little tired after a night of gin, but as soon as we tasted that hot, juicy mess all was right with the world. We each devoured our sandwiches at the counter and split a third. I even ordered a few pounds to go. Altogether, the trip took about 8 hours. Well worth it for one of the greatest tastes I have had the pleasure of experiencing.
