Did not like it. Stopped at 5:30 PM on a weekday, only 2 other customers and teenager boys behind counter. Ordered beef, not dipped with sweet and hot + chips (no friess available). First clue this would not be good, the kids nuked the beef before making the sandwich and serving. Bread was not fresh, and meat had little flavor, had to add salt to eat it.

Not that I want to blow my own horn it is up to everyone to decide what a beef is but in defense of the current reviews. Yes, our beef is spicier than most. Our recipe is a lot older and more true than a lot out there. And our bread is an original Italian bread so if you grew up on Portillo's, no we are not like them. Ours is OLD SCHOOL. And the Giardiniera is made with Ceranos not Jalapenos!

I was kind of underwhelmed to tell the truth. Lots of beef, but it had jalapenos all over it. I don't remember getting those in Chicago. No salad peppers. Service was good, owner (I presume) was friendly. Tasted all right, but not like I remember a Chicago IB tasting. It also cost over $8.00. Not worth another 40 mile trip. Sorry.

The bread is wrong. It's not the Gonnella type Italian roll you get in Chicago, it's close but not quite. The seasoning they use makes the beef too spicy. Still, when you go without for so long it's still pretty good!
